Conservation
We provide the needed conservation tools to protect your valuable art.
Many are unaware that expensive artwork may not be properly framed especially if purchased over 20 years ago. Conservation mats did not exist & could be damaging your art.
What do I need to know about conservation? Is my framed artwork okay?
If you grew up in the 70's you or someone you knew avidly listened to vinyl records. Those same records now are sold throughout the country in resales shops. Ever take a look of the condition some of them are in? Notice the paper sleeves, they are likely yellowed, brittle, and falling apart. This happens to any type of paper or board that does not contain any acid-free elements in it, especially if it's exposed to any sunlight.
This is the same thing that can happen to your framed pieces. The mat boards or any other materials used were likely made without acid-free elements, an option that didn't exist until recent times.
The yellowing of paper is the "acid" of the material, this yellowing can seep through and yellow your framed items.
But it's not too late! While damage could potentially be done, we are here to offer conservation options to help prevent any further damage.
We offer mat board options with acid free surfaces to protect your sentimental items. The backing we provide is an acid free foam core, to further protect the piece within the frame.
Glazing, or glass, options are also very important when it comes to preserving photos or artwork. Most framed work is framed with a standard glass option. This is to simply protect the piece of art from any physical outside elements. What about the sun? UV rays from the sun can prevent fading or yellowing in pieces of art or photos. While options like reproductions and modern printed photos, these items are printed with higher quality machinery that wasn't available back in the day. While those old photos are still around, and original artwork is still being produced, we offer glazing options, such as conservation clear glass, to protect those valuable items from harmful UV rays.
